Farewell to the Prophet!

Gordon B. Hinkley was an incredible Prophet! I loved to listen to him and to see him speak. He looked like the sweetest man ever. I will miss listening to him speak, but I am glad that he can go home to his sweetheart and to rest. The best way to reverence him, is by his own quotes and teachings. He will be missed. I think my dad is probably feeling very priveleged to be there to greet him.

"We do not worship the Prophet [Joseph Smith]. We worship God our Eternal Father and the risen Lord Jesus Christ. But we acknowledge the Prophet; we proclaim him; we respect him; we reverence him as an instrument in the hands of the Almighty in restoring to the earth the ancient truths of the divine gospel, together with the priesthood."
President Gordon B. Hinckley, Liahona and Ensign, Dec. 2005, 2–6

"God is weaving his tapestry according to his own grand design. All flesh is in his hands. It is not our prerogative to counsel him. It is our responsibility and our opportunity to be at peace in our minds and in our hearts, and to know that he is God, that this is his work, and that he will not permit it to fail.
We have no need to fear. We have no need to worry. We have no need to speculate. Our imperative need is to be found doing our duty individually in the callings which have come to us. And because, for the most part, the Latter-day Saints are walking in faith and working with conviction, the Church is consistently growing ever stronger."
Gordon B. Hinckley, “He Slumbers Not, nor Sleeps,” Ensign, May 1983,

“This is my prayer for all of us—'Lord, increase our faith.' Increase our faith to bridge the chasms of uncertainty and doubt. . . . Grant us faith to look beyond the problems of the moment to the miracles of the future. . . . Give us faith to do what is right and let the consequence follow.”
( Gordon B. Hinkley “Lord, Increase Our Faith,” Ensign, Nov. 1987, 52–53.)

Heath Ledger

Okay, so I feel really sad about Heath Ledgers death. Mostly because he has a little two year old, and I feel for that baby. But also because he was a really great actor. (Even if he DID play a gay cowboy which wasn't very appealing to me) He really gave his all to the parts he did play, and he played in such a variety of movies. Who knows how his morale value was, or any of that, but that's why God's the judge and not me. I feel for his family. Losing a loved one isn't fun. It may seem silly, but I always am hopeful when an actor or actress dies, that they get a chance in the next life to accept the gospel. I'm always hopeful that they will accept it, because I like to think the best of everyone.

Anyway, here's to Heath Ledgers family - may peace be with them.

My Funny Girl

It's been a little bit since I recorded the fun things Aspen has been doing. And since this is the only form of "journal" I ever get done, guess it's time before I forget.

She calls herself "Apen" which is really cute. She says things like "Peek-A-Boo Apen"

My mom got a call from a telemarketer the other day, and she didn't want to talk to them, so she handed the phone to Aspen, and Aspen got on and said "mom is beesy (Busy), mom is Beesy" and then hung up the phone. Guess we have our telemarketers covered now.

I went to the fridge to get Aspen something to eat the other day, and said "Do you want some ham" since she usually loves ham, and she said "no, I don't wike (Like) ham"

She still loves to sing and dance. She will sing "in the tree tops, when the wind blows the baby will wok (rock), when the baugh bwakes (brakes) the baby will fall, and down will come baby, cwadle (Cradle) and all."

And my very favorite "Gwampa's in heban wif Jesus, and e's appy! (Happy)" (Grandpa's in heaven with Jesus, and he's happy!)

She does her ABC's and can count to 10. And signs almost everything she can say.

She isn't even 2 yet, and she is super smarty pants. She is a lot of fun. I know there are lots of things I am forgetting already that she has done or said, but ah well...I'll have to write faster next time. We definetely have our hands full with her! We are blessed to have hr in our family. I know that all of us who are parents think our kid is the smartest in the world, and the cutest. Guess we aren't any different than other parents. Ha

Memories of Daddy...

Memories of Dad:
Singing to many songs to name
walking hand in hand
Talking about the afterlife
Whistle
Violin
Viola
Daddy's cowboy hat
Bald head
working in the yard
intelligent conversations
his brothers and sisters
laughing
doing the dishes
walking home from church
family trips he grumped about
"Dear sweetheart, I love you"
Precious Memories
holding hands
Grandma of course
Smart as a whip
"snickering behind mom's back"
winks
wornout hands
gardens
art/projects
watching him visit with his sons
JAZZ basketball
Rock Hounding
Making Jewelry
Sleeping/snoring during family get togethers
"dad, you called..." silence on his end every time he'd call...busy working on the computer..."dad..did you want to talk to mom..." silence - (Ha)
"enjoy the happy times, they are few and far between"
"Even if the church weren't true...why WOULDN'T you want to live it's principles, it can only keep you happy and healthy"
"Sister"
"SHH...whoever you are, get over here"
"She knows I love her"

These are a few of my memories of my dad. I'm sure they won't make sense to everyone. But they make sense to me. And probably my siblings. I was talking to my brother Shalee tonight. The first I have talked to a family member about losing my dad really. (We just don't open up to each other much) He and I had a good conversation. I told him I couldn't remember my dad...which is kind of true. I've had a hard time remembering him...or even what he looked like without looking at a picture. Shalee said he remembers well. So I decided that maybe it's because subcounciously I haven't wanted to think about it. So I decided it was time to write down some memories. Thanks for allowing me the long post. And for allowing my sentimental talk...it's not like me, but it's about time.

Daddy...I miss you. You are my "Bridge over troubled water" You are the "sweet sound in the poem" You are the "part of me that smiles, and the tear that falls down my cheek" I'll try to keep your memory alive. Remember me as I remember you.

Pictures

Now remember, I'm an amature. And I thought I'd have a little fun with photoshop for some of them. But it's a starter anyway...I hope to get better along the way.

Pictures coming soon!

I have a bunch of pictures I have taken with my BEAUTIFUL Canon Rebel XTI, but I haven't pulled them off yet, so that is my goal tonight, to get some posted. I have had so much fun taking the pictures and learning to be a better photographer. I can't wait to start my photography class now! So stayed tuned, and I will get some posted soon. Don't expect too much of course, heaven knows I'm the biggest "Beginner" in the world.

I've also finally decided what I want to go back to school in. I want to get a minor in Sign Language, and a major in Graphic Arts (hopefully they have those things...I never know really what you can minor and major in - Ha). Then if I have any time left, I'd love to start dancing again. I never thought I'd miss all that stuff so much...the stuff you stop after highschool. I miss dancing, and being in plays, and all that silly stuff. I've been looking for a "mom dance group" here, but I haven't found one yet...if anyone knows of one, let me know! That's the only kind of exercise that I ever get done, or feel motivated to do, and boy do I need to get back to it. This body "ain't what it use to be".

In my defense...

Alright, so I am stinkin at blogging lately. I know...they have been boring and short. But in my defense, I am sick with a horrid cold that won't go away, It's my busy work week (of course, when isn't it) and the #1 reason? I am babysitting 3 of my brothers children for a week while they are in Hawaii...so most of all I am sulking. I would LOVE to go to Hawaii, and get out of this blasted cold weather, but instead I'm babysitting...thinking of how much fun they are having in Hawaii. Oh the breaks! When is it my turn? (Mom keeps reminding me she was a lot older when she first went...) it still isn't helping. I'm still aching to be somewhere nice and warm! I'm going to try to talk Ashton out of buying that Jeep he wants, so we can use the money to go to Hawaii (I'm thinking he won't go for it, since all he ever thinks about is the perfect Jeep he wants) But it's worth a try...Here's to a cold day in Utah!
